    Default Weird Doritis pulcherima

I like this Doritis because of the petals uniqueness. It has compact blooms on it spike and the plant is so small compared to the flowers.

The flowers are peloric, which is a mutation where the petals take on the appearance of the lip. It can occur in different degrees. By the way, this plant is now called Phalaenopsis pulcherima.

A very good colour, and the pelorism ( maybe I've just invented that word ?) is not so marked as to offend me.
I have seen this growing wild in a National Park in Thailand where it formed clumps in every large crack in a limestone (?) pavement; spikes two feet high, and eeveral spikes on muilti growths, in each clump. . I counted as many as 40 flowers all out and good, on the best spike . That was in the rainy season, early August. Pity I could not collect any, on pain of ending up in one of Thailands famous gaols - especially with the Park staff looking on at me - for this was quite close to the Park HQ. I've forgotten the name of the park - I visited several on that trip , but its one where a good and interesting Vanilla grows too , quite different from the commercial ones, and flowering very freely at that time.

Are there more peloric forms about nowadays I wonder? If so, why?
Or is it just that there are more images of orchids about, and it is the nice ones, and/or the different ones which get snapped ?
