Cool Fragrant Mtdm. Cleo's Pride 'HOF'

Snapped a couple of shots of this orchid after its odd fragrance caught my attention. I like the color in the blooms. Hope you enjoy it too.

Very nice! I am very into fragrant orchids, so this is of interest. Mtdm is new on me: is it a multigeneric? (By its appearance it seems to blend several genera of the Odontoglossum group... even a touch of Zygopetalum influence: can that be possible??)

Check the OrchidTalk Orchid Genus Listings page. This is a Miltonia x Oncidium cross.

    Welcome to the community, Pindar.

Very pretty, BD. How many blooms on the spike? My miltonidiums don't seem to do very well here and usually have only 6-7 flowers on the spike.

I think there are six of seven. There are some buds still developing. These photos are of the bottom of the spike and the first few blooms. It is a tiny plant in a 4 inch pot. I will try to get a shot of the poor little guy tomorrow. It is after midnight here now.

Very pretty, I like the mix of green petals with white lips. Does strange fragrance mean bad, or just unusual? I'm also rather interested in the fragrant varieties.

I really love the way my cattleyas smell. Even some of the oncidiums I grow have nice floral scents. This little one has a strange fragrance. I wouldn't say it is bad, but it is not something I 'appreciate' as much as the sweeter fragrances. I am terrible at describing fragrance, though when I was in France at a perfume factory, I was told that I had a very highly developed nose. (some test they administered to everyone in our group where we smelled 15 or 20 fragrances and then were given five vials of oil and were asked to identify them. I was able to identify all but one, but to this day if asked to describe the fragrances, I would be at a loss for words.)

    Cheers,
    BD

I can help you out here Bruce, until your Orchidwiz comes back ( v8 is a long time coming since I paid for it ? - but that's an irrelvance.

Thius hybrid seems to have gone back to being an Oncidium - straight oncidium - after the jiggery-pokery in this group by Kew and others with their DNA analyses.) The parents, all now Oncidiums , some 4 generations back are O.altissimum, leucochilum,& schroederianum ( this is the one which was once a Milt, I think).

It appears to have eight flowers total, Yew Sung. I am embarrassed to show the poor condition of the plant, but since I took a photo, here it is:
