    Default Oncidium Josephine

    Cheers,

Got this one last year.... I was very impressed with this when I got it. Now it flowered for me
for the first time, I remember when I noticed the spike a few weeks back and I was very very
happy and was jumping in joy... then the buds started to form, in all I've counted at least 2dozen
buds forming... then something went terribly wrong, the buds started to blast one after another
I was so disappointed that I almost threw the thing to the garbage, but still decided to keep it...
I left it in one corner of the garden and forgot about it, then this weekend I remembered it and
decided to take a look at it whether some buds may have survived... I found 2, but the other one is
damaged by the rain I supposed... so in effect, of the 2 dozen buds I am only left with 1 good bloom...
theres still one bud left I hope it wont blast.

    Anyways heres the photo.

sorry to hear Randy, possibly the weather conditions disturbed it, just like your Maxillaria perhaps?

Randy, only two blooms left out of 2 dozens?... Nonetheless, they are still beautiful! ~

Onc Josephine has one of the brightest coloured blooms among the mule ears. Bud drops may be due to too much rain.

Bad Randy !!!! LOL. You should not loose hope so easily, remember its never the fault of the plant, its directly or indirectly our fault. Very beautiful bloom really.

Ps. If you throw such orchids in your garbage, I wouldn't mind going through your garbage bins and collect such gold LOL.

The flower that remained is so beautiful...I think it wants to encourage you to keep the plant and try again.

    Mabuhay@

@delphiguy...i had and have that kind of orchid. The one i lost was really beautiful; it had a very dark/chocolatey texture including the flower branch which can reach up to a yard in length, a big pinkish lip and it was very fragrant. There were only a few instances where i was able to witness around 50-60 big blossoms; it was really beautiful. It was growing for a long-time on the trunk of my avocado tree but sad to say, the tree was cut down and i had to transfer the orchid. To make the long story short it just didn't survive.

From my experience, this orchid can be temperamental. The leaves burn easily, too much water can be disastrous. And i feel this plant goes to dormancy when disturbed or reach a certain phase of its life then all of a sudden it will just come to life either by producing another plant or growing lots of roots or by flowering. I've also noticed that they're very prone to ants, small, blackish ants that likes to munch on its flowers.

Anyway, don't throw away your orchid they just need a little bit more stretch of patience and research.

    goodluck and Godbless

Thanks guys... it was a stressful week when I decided to throw it away, work mostly... and not getting enough rest etc etc... so I was really happy when i saw it... and thought that hey
at least I've got my rewards... and then buds blasting one after another.... arrgh the pain of watching all that effort go into nothing. And then the wife asked me to throw out the
garbage... i thought that hmm maybe I should throw this one away.... but of course I was able to control myself and kept it... and besides I havent thrown a live plant and im not going to
start now. And besides I still got my reward....

I think all of us have been there where things arent going our way and we end up making stupid decisions...

Glad you did not throw it out. It is a bright, beautiful bloom. Hopefully next time this orchid will bloom better for you.

    Cheers,
    BD
