I'm catching up on posts of current and recent blooms. I know this is one Louis has in his catalog (I bought it from RVO in Jan.), but the flowers are so pretty, I wanted to post pics. Mine opened around March first and very slowly lost its flowers from late April through late May. This was in mid-May, and they're still looking great!

Julie, those are beautiful. The blooms are stunning and so is the photography! I am impressed. I especially like the second photo. The bloom looks like that Christmas peppermint soft candy, I forget what it is called, but I love it.

    Bravo!
    Cheers!

I'm with BD. Great blooms, and especially great photos.

Since you've provided me excellent photography advice previously, may I ask what you're using for the black background. I tried a black sheet, and it reflected most of the light making it look blue?

Thanks guys! I was going to say what a worthwhile investment the black velvet was (but you asked anyway, Matt!) I bought a yard for about $20. It was a good grade because they have less sheen. I set the plants a bit forward of it and use a tripod a few feet away at least. That way there's the distance to get a precise focuse with a more forgiving depth of field (and with the velvet a foot or so behind, small surface bumps in the velvet aren't noticeable.

The lighting is the hardest thing to get right. I'll play with halogen, fill-in lamps and flash and no-flash settings on the camera until it looks pretty accurate, but my lighting could really use more work. Also, when the files are scaled down in resolution for Web posting they loose some sharpness, but they're coming out pretty well.

Black velvet and tripod are the first order of biz. Lighting is next, Matt.
    Good luck!

Black velvet, eh? I can only imagine what the clerk will be wondering about me when I ask for a yard of black velvet!

    Thanks for the info.
