Default Wow! My latest alien is a Witch Doctor! Brassia Mem. Fritz Boedeker

Alarmingly rapid as it is, I have drifted from the more mainstream sense of orchid aesthetics down an estuary of plant types that I have a difficult time persuading friends and family are truly flowers and not alien exoskeletals. Apparently, this is not unusual for orchid freaks, so I really should confine my excitement to the appropriate avenues - thusly.....

This is potentially the wildest, coolest orchid to come into my view, never mind possession! The pictures just can't do justice to a raving Brassia Mem. Fritz Boedeker 'Witch Doctor', but I have to share it anyway. I hope by the time I get this posted, the taxonomy hasn't already changed...

You wouldn't think so, but I am awash in information about changing intergenerics and species names on the thread I posted about my Banfieldara - I think Michael Saar applied no fewer than 10 or 12 different latinate combinations to it, and my education, which I once thought was superior, is starting to feel inadequate. Makes me wonder if my daughter studying quantum physics is up against as much of a challenge!

I like the flowers on this one...long and elegant. And yes...some orchids DO look like they are from another planet and I have been saying that for awhile. Take ANY vanda flower and do a close up....now tell me that doesn't look like a crazy little creature flying a butterfly?!! My dad swears the lady slipper types are from another planet. lol

Have you seen the castasetum (sp) recently posted? It's generally agreed to look like a big friendly monster, but I have to say it looks to me as if it could turn unfriendly at any moment.

And yet, as weird or "ugly" as they may seem, we love them all!

Most of the draculas look like they have baboon faces to me. I love this one although I will agree it looks a bit alien. Very nice!!!!
