Default Phal Ever Spring Fairy 'Shih Hua'

I know harlequins aren't everyone's mug of beer, but I'm a sucker for 'em!

This is the cross of: Taisuco Kochdian x Golden Peoker.

It won't win any awards for form or presentation (the pot got moved around a bit while the spike was forming), but it is its first blooming. Hopefully things will improve next time. I love the big splotches (it looks like the carpet the other evening after I knocked over the bottle of cabernet...)

While I am one of those who prefer
a glass of beer to this mug of beer,
the neat thing I just noticed:
    the buds got spots.
I guess since the flower do,
it's reasonable to assume the buds will, too,
but I've never seen the buds before,
    just the open bloom.
    so, 'learn something new everyday'.

You're right, Ennui - the buds show the splotchiness you can expect in the sepals. It was quite fun watching each mature. I wasn't expecting it either. It was like an early warning indicator for the flower. From the pictures I'd seen, I was expecting more white background and fewer splotches, but I love them just as they are!
