    Default Unhelpful plant tags

    Hi everyone,

I went to my local garden centre today looking at their stock as I often like to do and wondered what these plants are. The tag simply says "Orchidee." Only certain plants had an actual type on their tags and I already knew them!

I took some photos on my phone for this forum. Can you identify these?

Identification as to the general type of orchid, yes. Actual name, no. There are too many similar looking hybrids for that.

    #1 plant w/ yellow flowers -- oncidium, plant w/ reddish flowers -- ?
#2 some type of oncidium or its alliance
    #3 Miltoniopsis
    #4 Phalanopsis

The one with the reddish flowers looks like it might be a Columnara, which is part of the Oncidium alliance.

Nice one thanks for that. Sometimes hard to tell what looking at when they don't identify them on the tags.

Well Orchidee is German/Dutch for orchid, but apart from that, i couldnt tell you what the species/hybrids are, Pavel pretty much has the genus' sorted.

    1. The yellow flowers could be Oncidium Gower Ramsey
    2. The purplish one next to it could be an Aliceara hybrid
    3. The 'pansy' orchid is a Miltoniopsis hybrid -
    4. Phalaenopsis hybrid

At best I can only hazard the generic but not the specific name. As for Onc Gower Ramsey, the size of the flower might suggest it.
