Paint a flower? I've seen it and I don't like them either. If I want a blue orchid i'll look for a coerulea. My friend didn't have to twist my arm very hard....lol. I kept seeing others I wanted so I knew it was time to head home.

Very delicate veining on those. Quite nice.

Matt, if you're thinking of the abominations that I think you are (phals, yes?) -- then they aren't painted. Instead the flower spike is injected with some sort of chemical compound containing silver. The chemical reaction that takes place turns the developing flowers blue. In extreme cases, the roots of the plant will also be bluish.

I know what you mean Connie! Im such a sucker for phals especially when the shop displays are the orchid equivalent of the tulip fields of Amsterdam! (non injected ones - thanks Pavel). Often have to tell myself 'checkout' and 'head home'. If Physcologists are still battling the mind of a serial killer, they should think twice before challenging the orchidaddictedobsessedoutofcontroldevotedbrain. I noticed that if two lips can vary on two flowers on the spike of the same plant as above the choice and variants is overwhelming.

My friend/ landlady whoms house i live has almost a dozen phals now in her bedroom.! Its catching.

What a lovely phal, Connie. The stripes in the bloom really are mesmerizing. Love it!! It would have found a home with me too and I don't normally buy phals.

    cheers,
    BD

I don't usually buy many phals lately. But the hot summer means my normal summer bloomers aren't putting out and I needed something to make my tv room look a little nicer. This one, the veining is definitely what got me. I have seen a million of these weird yellow looking phals, this one was the first i'd seen where the veins were so perfect.
Oh...and the phals they color blue here, they have something like a spray paint can. They spray paint them blue, pink....any color you can think of. It's a trick florists use with several types of flowers when they don't have the color someone wants. I watched my friend spray some one day and about fell over. She said it was funny when someone would rebloom one and get mad it wasn't still that weird blue color. lol She uses the large white phals to do it with mostly. Years ago she was a florist, then she got bit by the orchid bug. Her store is a wonder of exotic plants as well as orchids. You almost can't see the door to the store for all the plants these days...
