Probably no reason to fret, though, as I seem to have a particular talent for killing phals as soon as they've finished blooming.

That is a very beautiful Phal. I really hope you give him a chance!! don't kill 'em. Give him some words of love and a little water and he will surely reward you.
    best regards

Thank you, Angela, for your usual kind and inspiring thoughts! I'm trying with this one - it kind of hooked me because it's a very experimental new hybrid - just a number for the ID so far, and this was its first blooming - all TWO of them!

Having seen this Post, I thought I recognised the name "Francis Hunte" . I made some enquiries and discovered that this gentelman (now deceased), way back in the 1970's was one of a very few growers of orchids on the island , and i bought flowers from him for my flower shop long before I became interested in collecting myself ! His daughter confirmed for me that this orchid was named for him.
I am so happy to have found this out. I will now try to get one for myself.

I heard myself let out a WOOOOW unconsciously!! those phals are really breathtaking! soooo envy! hahaha! I always love phals but all these years I've never been successful with them. But I'm still trying and trying and trying... You're so lucky to have spotted such a beautiful phal Geoff!

I agree! I always love the human story behind the orchid - especially when real families are involved. After all, growing these beautiful plants is a very human experience, filled with stretches of difficulty and impatience, chasms of failure, and finally, the shining pinnacle of success - a fabulous, unique bloom. Good for you, Angela, in sharing this fascinating story about Geoff's phal.
