    Default Oncidium (odontoglossum?) NOID

A very lovely find from the weekend flower market and currently my favorite. The only thing the vendor knew about its genealogy was "oncidium or odontoglossum hybrid".

Any hints regarding the parentage would be very welcome!

    Thanks much

    Hans

It is very pretty , I don't think it is a Odontoglossum , I have only had one of those and the flowers on it were much smaller . It looks like one of the intergenitic Oncid. types, sorry I am not much help . Thanks for sharing your plant Gin

I agree with Gin, not an Odontoglossum. I also think it's a hybrid and, still agreeing with Gin, probably intergeneric.

Definitely could have some Oncidium in it--yellow flowers with brown or maroon spots are what Oncidiums "do".

I also think it has some Brassia in it--the star shaped Oncidium alliance flowers almost always owes their ancestry to some Brassia. If I'm correct, that would make your plant a member of the intergeneric genus, Brassidium. Try a google image search with Brassidium and see if you get any good candidates.

    Cheers,

    Rob

    Hi Gin and Rob,

thank you both very much for the tips! I googled "brassidium" and found a brassidium Fly Away "Miami", which indeed strongly resembles mine.

Thanks again for yer teachings - I just LOVE to learn!

Still mostly carnivores, but I hope to fill the walls with orchids over the summer...:-)
