Carpenterara Sydney Smith = Carpenterara New Dimension x Oncidium hastilabium
_Carpenterara New Dimension = Odontocidium Big Mac x Baptistonia echinata
__Odontocidium Big Mac = Oncidium maculatum x Odontoglossum hallii

    So there you go.

    %50 Oncidium hastilabium
    %25 Baptistonia echinata
    %12.5 Oncidium maculatum
    %12.5 Odontoglossum hallii

I have to say, as nice as it is (I like it a lot), it's a shame that more of the color of Onc. hastilabium or the shape of Bapt. echinata didn't come through. Regardless, it's a lovely hybrid, and the Bapt. parentage likely keeps the size down a bit. Baptistonia echinata is a very floriferous miniature. Here's a pic of a first bloom Baptistonia, in a 2 1/2" or 3" pot:

Wowee... cool lip on that baptistonia, love how it has them yellow 'wings'... and a small one to boot... what sorta condition does it need to grow and flower? cold tolerant?

    Cheers

Wow Sue, you must be a genetics buff! And it is VERY interesting to see one of the species that went into the cross, and see how different the outcome ends up being. Great thread going here!

I just looked all that information up on the RHS website (link above).

I've been giving the Bapt. a standard Oncidium treatment, it's growing well so far. I think it might officially be a intermediate grower, but it's putting up with the heat just fine.
