Congrats on successfully growing these beauties of the oncidium family. For me growing Tolumnias has been a very humbling experience - just as I thought I had 'mastered' the art of growing them they commit mass harakiri. They have never survived more than 4 years under my 'care'. A vendor I know had his whole collection of a few hundred plants wiped out within a few weeks, while his other orchids were healthy enough.

i have heard horror stories about tolumnias. there isn't much to them, so any insect problem is very swift in killing the plant, scale can supposedly kill a whole collection in just a few days. i've been very lucky so far with the first one. the second has spent a whole year clinging to life. i am really hoping these new growths root in better and save the plant. the flowers were incredible when i bought it. i also think internet advice on them is a bit off for my growing area, we're very dry here, so all the warnings about overwatering are not as appropriate as they would be in a more humid environment. i mist almost every morning, and by mist i mean i spray these suckers until they are sopping wet, and not the roots but the whole leafy part too. at least once a week, and usually twice i soak their little treefern pots in water until it is waterlogged, especially during warm weather. it definitely stays wet that night. so far, no harm. i also think the way their leaves fan out like that traps small amounts of water in between them at their bases, i have noticed roots down between the leaves on the larger healthy plant. since i started making sure water gets down in there when i water, it has done well, the other is so dried the leaves don't open enough, so i am really hoping to get a new growth with good roots to save the plant.

this is the first time it has given me a side branch... the flowers are a bit darker, perhaps from our cold weather. forecasted overnight low got down to 40f and 39f for a week or so. even have 2 new spikes coming, one from the same fan of leaves as the current flowering.

so i have a possible ID to report on this one, it very well might be Tolumnia Red Berry. i bought it from someone who only speaks french, and i sure don't, so it took some google translating and much begging to get the seller to look through their records to see what inventory they could have had when i bought this plant. anyway, after some finagling, the seller also thinks this is Red Berry, as the only other red he had at the time would have been something he listed as 'tolumnia red galaxy' which i assume is actually Tolumnia Passionata Red "Galaxy" and looks very different. there are other similar reds though, so it could always be some other hybrid.

these always seem to look more rosy in photos than in real life. i'm not that great with a camera, let alone a camera phone so i can't really get the right color. plus they have a bit of a reflective sheen to them.

I quit using my phones camera for just that reason. Color rendering is not true.

    Nice Tolumnia!
