    Post Psychopsis Mariposa

Hi friends, this is another Psychopsis Mariposa I received last week by post. I have transferred it to S/H and along with it are 2 Psy.Kalihi and 2Psy.Sanderae. All of them are in S/H. Its my first go at them and I confess, I like them more than Paphiopedilums. Although, I have a Caudatum which is still to bloom but no time sooner I guess. I am not sure about this but the Mariposa smells of the Clove and Cinnamon spice. It's got a very spicy smell to it. This afternoon I was wondering about the fragrance and it was only in the extension. There are no other blooms except this one and I was surprised to discover the source of it. Keeping fingers crossed, I hope the Psychopsis lot accept the S/H culture.

I've read that Psychopsis orchids do not like to be repotted. Keep us informed on how it does in Semi-hydro. Maybe that is how it will like to grow!

    cheers,

I have not had a problem with repotting them myself. I had to repot one of them 3 times as it was knocked over and lost its medium. It is throwing out new growths anyway.

I had one that I bought on the Insistence of my partner. It was a beautiful plant. I found that it did ok with repotting. It just took a long time to get going again...I had two spikes within a year. BUT, I lost it to a battle with spider mites.

    UPDATE

All is good. The only loss was that of the mariposa, shedding its new growth which was a potential pseudobulb. On further examining it, I found out that it wasn't rotten but just dry, so a relief. On the positive side, all six of them are pushing new roots and leaves.

This is the dried off pseudobulb growth.
