Cool Maclellanara Yellow Star 'Golden Gambol'

I bought this back in February, and this is the first time I've gotten to see the flowers as it was not in bloom when I bought it.

Strictly speaking they don't exist any more, following the great DNA reshuffles in the Oncidium group . So this is Brassidium Yellow Star. Has 4 different oncidiums in its parentage , three of which were odontoglossums until recently, plus one Brassia which has been doing a ping-pong job between Ada and Brassia for a time.
Actually the bulb shape seen here is puzzling - none of the listed parents is anything like it, although some other Brassias are - e.g. I could imagine Onc.wentworthianum ( one of the parents) with its usually deeply ridged bulbs, crossed with say Brassia verrucosa, with its tall narrow bulbs, giving this shape... but that's all speculation.

Just change the label to Brsdm and what a nice cheerful orchid it is too.

I kind of figured the name was wrong but couldn't find it online. (yes I need to get the cds! sigh...) One of these days i'll get my cds of orchidwiz and will stop making these mistakes. lol In the meantime, thanks for the update! Time to go back outside and play change the tag again.
