    Default Phalaenopsis first bloom

Just when I was about to give up on phals, my dear plant rewarded me with these stunning flowers! sorry for the picture quality. Phalaenopsis is always hard for me. Always purchasing them with flowers and no more succeeding bloom, or seedlings that never bloom. This is the first full bloom of phalaenopsis under my care and I am just too happy. After around 10 years of having phals in my collection with no bloom, this one just reminded me a lesson to never give up! hahaha! Thank you to all the friends here for the inspirations too!

Congrats Jenn !!! I've killed more phals than I've bloomed them. I'm OK with species phal but have never been successful with the large showy whites, pinks, harlequins etc - they just die or refuse to bloom.

Great job.... I don't have any luck with phals. I also buy them with blooms and they never make it to the next blooming season.

Lovely classic white. Look at the bold, wedgy laterals- they don't come much better than that! Seriously, everything's there: great selection.

Another point, though: I read here (and not for the first time) that so many of us have trouble with Phals... I find this truly weird: because where I grow them (in my conservatory, in England) it goes down to 10 degrees at night in the winter, sometimes to only 7... and yet all my Phals grow and bloom like crazy- I don't know what I would have to do to stop them blooming! (all hybrids, about half of them Doritaenopsis)... What is going on, folks? They are supposed to be warm-growing orchids, and yet it seems growers in warm countries have most difficulties with them. This is all wrong, I tell you!

Thanks everyone! Hoping that this first bloom will continue....and not the last one i wish...hahaha!

Phals are really my favorite orchid type, i was attracted to the beauty of the phals and so had my first phal plant. And for most articles or books I read, phals are the orchid type for the beginners because it's "easy" to grow...but after years of having phals, species or hybrid, I find it the "hardest" one. Just can't understand...

Pindar, I'm sooo envy with u!
