This is my first brassia type orchid. I'm hoping I'll do well with it. I got it from RVO last week, 3 spikes, flowers about 9 - 10 inches tall for the largest. Love the curly petals/sepals.

Wow, love the colour on this as well.... seems to have more of the darker markings than many I've seen... stands out more!

It looks like it has it's arms crossed above its head. That is a nice boom

I picked up mine last week, I love him!! I love how the flowers peel open so slowly and are layered on top of each other with their beautiful spotted "spider legs." Yours is gorgeous.

Could any kind member translate the words for a mere old limey ? Looks almost like the Gaelic !

As to the flower, those curled petals etc are reminiscent of many of the Adas - which are very close to Brassia ; I( must look up the parentage.

Now I see that it has Onc cariniferum and Brassia arcuigera in its parentage ; both have those crossed arms-looking petals. Genetics works !

I was curious enough myself to dig for the meaning of "NA BEAN DO'N CHAT GUN LAMHAINN". A Scottish Gaelic heraldic motto translated as "Touch not the cat but a glove", used with a coat of arms showing a cat with claws extended. The glove refers to the sheaths of the cat's claws so it is taken as a figurative warning to not touch a Scottish wildcat with claws extended.
