Soooo...dare I ask...how long will they live (assuming you don't divide)? How do you know when to divide? Does the lack of any visible/palpable bark doom it? What to do???

Nice job with that one! I love their scent... As I was counting all those spikes, I noticed what looks to be a staghorn mounted to a palm. Is that correct? If so, how long has it been there?

The staghorn isn't mounted--it engulfed its wooden box, from which I had it suspended by a wire. Now I just wrap the wire around the palm; that way I can re-position the staghorn when necessary. I got the fern becuase the workers who built the pool had accidentally done away with a small common staghorn when they were digging. They went overboard to say "sorry" by bringing me thiis silvery VERY slow-growing staghorn with fuzzy leaves. I've had it 7 years and it has only about doubled...

Very nice looking;I am not sure if it's placed outside or in a conservatory; anyhow, this would look great in a glasshouse.

Very nice, mine has 13 spikes but none have open buds yet. Can't wait to walk onto my deck and be greeted withe the smell of Vanilla (I know but it smells like vanilla to me!).
