Really? Because she was dying or the phal was so beautiful? It is a lovely bloom! a ton of our phals came into bloom in Feb. and I just love em. Thanks for all the recent photos!Originally Posted by Piper
No, no, no! I wasn't keeping it because I didn't think Gretchen would last.
Not at all... The plant wasn't going to be delivered until Sunday dinner. Saturday afternoon, after repotting it, I loved how it looked on my windowsill (I was the one who picked it out), so I offered to go out Sunday morning and buy her another plant.
I did (picking up my black-hole vini paph at the same time), and chose a lovely nobile dend with one flower open and over 25 buds for Gretchen. I really did think that watching the buds open would provide more daily thrill than a fully deployed 'chid. It has apparently been the case. Gretchen is happier than a pig in...mud! Watching the flowers spurt open each day has given her quite a recharged purpose.
I've heard of 'therapy flowers' with orchids, and think it's a lovely idea. I tried it with a neighbor last winter who was shut in. But when I got my prized phal back, it took months to rehabilitate it for the lack of proper care. I don't know how to make this work...but there ought to be a way!
