That is what I dream of! Actually I just received a very nice one from a grower in Mexico and hope for success with it. Could you share any culture tips since you obviously did something(s) right! My environment is quite different from where the plant came from, near Toluca and I am on the Mar de Cortez coast in Sonora. Just looking for ideas to help mine along.

Very nice... Good clones of sphacelatum are not easy to find (at least here). The ones I see have one noticeable fault; by the time the last flowers open, the first ones are already fading, due to the semi-sequential opening of flowers on each branch.

It is fairly easy to care. Give it a lot of light and nutrition during growth phase. I grow mine in 50% shade cloth receiving maximum light. I grow it in bark + pieces of sphagnum moss. pseudobulbs grow quite plump during the growth phase and wait for the spikes around winter. Takes almost 2-3 months for the spikes to develop and open.

Thanks for the details. I haven't been able to find much specific advice for this species on the various sites, usually very general for this very large and diverse genus. I also have a small O. sotoana from the same grower, and a mounted O. cebolleta--------------------------. My favorites are the native species, particularly neotropical and a few Dendobiums. Humidity (lack of) is the big issue during most of the year except May to Sept., then the heat becomes an issue.
