Smile Bollopetalum Midnight Blue 'Cardinal's Roost'

This is the first time this orchid has bloomed. It was shipped to me as 'blooming size' a year ago. Needless to say, it wasn't blooming size when I received it. The foliage is about 6 inches tall.

Since it has been a member of the asylum, it has grown 2 new pb's. This version's flower is not as dark as some that I have seen, but these flowers have been open only 12-36 hours. I think they may darken a bit more as the flowers mature. The blooms might even open a little more too.

Zygopetalum is one parent for this hybrid. So like a zygo, the spike emerges early once a new growth gets going.
