It was orchids from this grocery that started me down the road to 'orchid fever' to start with! One is in bloom now, the Aliceara Pacific Okika. That one is my 2nd non-phal orchid and it has always done well for me.

I have a seedling of this type and hope it can grow to your size. A truly nice flower.

Of course I grow all my orchids outside so had room for the size of this plant in bloom. I did have to move several Vanda baskets off this hanging pole to accommodate the space required for cascading bloom spikes and being in a clay pot it's heavy. Not dividing this plant, want it to keep growing, I like specimen orchids. Probably a throwback to my botanical garden days. I can understand why this one was HCC awarded, beautiful flowers. JDT I'll try to locate some pics of my orchid growing areas. I grow orchids all over my garden; on vertical trellises, fences, sitting on benches, hanging on poles, chains, and arbors.
Just the way you describe your growing area I am sure we all would like to see pictures of all of it, sounds to be a very nice setup and might give some others ideas on what to do in their backyard.

Just got my order delivered today it is a great specimen and even in spike with 2 blooms so far with 2 more buds on the spike. Thanks again for the information.

Jack, glad to hear your new Gombrassiltonia Hilo Ablaze 'Hilo Gold' HCC/AOS was delivered safely and looks good. Sure you will enjoy the flowers as it matures. It has grown well outside for me, I think your summer and winter temperatures are similar to Sarasota ? Attaching some photos of two trellis in my back yard where I hang orchids. First photo is trellis shaded by a big Mulberry tree so have smaller staghorn ferns and Phalaenopsis on that trellis. Other trellis next to it gets morning sun, broken shade rest of day. Bromeliads and some orchids on that one, do still have room to hang more orchids. Three tier plant benches on ground in front of trellises.

    Nina,
Yes I think we are very close in temperature and humidity, maybe we get a little hotter and I don't think we get the cold that you do but not by much.

Great pictures, my second orchid shed 3 sides of that shed is also cover with pvc trellis similar to what you have in your garden, my first shed has a little also. The second shed trellis has 50% covered Bulbophyllums. I have said several times that I was going to post update pictures of this second shed on several posting but have not gotten around to doing that, I need to finish a little work that I did not do because I could not take the heat we had this past summer, now that has started to change so I need to get it done and will post pictures afterwards. I also have another project for my Vanda's that I need to get done.

Thanks Jack. My husband and son made and installed those trellis structures for me- pressure treated 4x4 posts in ground with concrete and vinyl trellis attached with screws. They installed a total of 4 of these in the garden, 2 more in another area. I wanted wood trellis but since he's replaced broken wood trellis in our garden before due to rot he got the vinyl this time. Would like to see your orchid shed. A shed with walls covered with pvc trellis and polycarbonate roof panels to keep rain out to store potting supplies and my potting bench is next on my to do please list. Now that it's cooling off I may see that. Here's one of the pergolas in my back garden that I use to hang orchids. Have another pergola and a wood arbor in the front garden that I hang more plants from.

Thanks Harvey, am happy to live in southwest Florida where I can be outside in the garden all year. We have no useless grass to mow, all mulched landscape beds with paths throughout the garden all around the house. I like plants but also "destinations" in the garden so have patio seating or pergolas and arbors at various spots along the paths. Here's different view from the red orchid pergola with path that goes on to front yard.
