    Default schilleriana

I know, everybody has one... but this is my first, one of my orchid tour purchases...

Be forwarned - if you go orchid shopping with Hoa, expect to stick your nose into every blossom!! He had whole groups of people doing it

    Very nice.

We went to 5 different growers yesterday and my 7-year old decided that smelling everything and describing the smell to everyone was her job of the day. My faviourite was when she described some big floofy cat as smelling "purplelyish-cious". Maybe she and Hoa need to make friends.

No, no, no, Eve! I think you want to keep her as far away from Hoa as you can! It might get expensive!!!

    Diane,

Very handsome. I think P. schilleriana plants are beautiful; in and out of bloom. Some do have very nice fragrances. Thank you for sharing.

During our excursion to SB for our orchid adventure and shopping spree, we came across a small colony of these phals growing in the hot house. You guys know that I am a fragrance nuts and I got Diane taking a sniff off the blooms. As far as I could tell, Diane was in LUV just after a whiff! This plant she picked out of the lot has amazing scent and it is very strong. We were given a treat of intoxicating fragrance all the way from the nursery to home! Take care of that baby! BTW, we also saw an amazing specimen size Phal. schilleriana at the show. We were quite taken by it as well! Many years of happy growing ahead, I hope!
    Cheers. Hoa.

My new baby is really amazing! The fragrance is lovely and fairly strong. The whole downstairs of my place is scented with it. I never would have purchased one if Hoa hadn't taught me to sniff everything first, then sniff the collection for the one you like best!!

I always assumed a cross was either fragrant or not. I never realized sniff degree could vary with sibs, as form, color and size do.

    Hoa, do you rent out?

    Hi Julie,
What do you mean by "rent out"? You mean if you could rent me out for a day going shopping for orchids with you???? Oh dear ...

Fragrance is just like any other traits, a recessive trait that is. Some plant gives off stronger and more gorgeous scent, some got nuthin'! Yep, NUTHIN'! This is especially true for Phal species. So if you are looking for this and lucky enough to stumble upon a collection in BLOOM, hell yes, sniff them out, pick out the best BABY and bring it home! Hehehhee!
    Cheers. Hoa.
