    Default Dtps. Happy King

While at the exhibit of Chihuly at Night this evening, I got a sneak peek at the Fairchild Gardens Orchid Show and of course couldn't leave without buying something. (Can anyone relate?)

I almost never buy Phals because Phals + me usually = dead plant. (Why can I grow every other orchid but not Phals?) But I fell in love with this one and just hope I don't kill it!

Very beautiful, indeed! No wonder you were seduced by it! I have been trying to get more of those phals like forever after first spotting them many years ago. The one that you bought, is it a clone or just a cross?

Ohhh...I love this coloration! It looks like an artist's canvas!

Good luck with this fellow! He's certainly an inspiration!

It is not labeled with a clonal name but it looks nearly identical to the one that I saw in "Orchids" Magazine a year or two ago (which had a clonal name and was the one I was searching for) .

The added bonus of the whole story is that it since they were inexpensive two of them came home instead of just one I like to think of it as insurance for the Phal-killer in me. LOL

Oh and Hoa...you would have been proud of my daughter, she had everyone smelling everything.

    Hi Eve,

Thanks! Well, I guess your daughter might be still very young to recognize very complex visual pattern and shape of the orchid blooms. However, scent recognition does not require much thought/image processing at this stage, that is probably your daughter loves doing it, like new discoveries to her. When I was very young, my father took me to orchid shows too. I don't remember much of anything. The only thing I remember to this day is that many of them smell so good! And probably that is why I collect lot of these fragrant orchids! Later, as my scientific training grew, I realized that orchid fragrance is very complex as well and many scientific books could be written about it.
    Cheers. Hoa.
