Smile Phal 'Lunchtime Peloric' NoID In Bloom

I bought this Peloric Phal last February in bloom. It has grown a new spike and is now back in bloom. The name 'Lunchtime Peloric' (happened to buy it at lunch one day) is how I remember the difference in my 3 No ID Peloric Phals. The other 2 are Candy-cane pattern.

Imaged with my new Nikon D5300 and the 18-55 mm lens. Still awaiting my macro lens.

I'm totally in love. I've a soft spot for pelorics and that one is a beauty. That rich color is awesome!

So, how did you take the picture? I need details so I can mess with my fancy new camera!! I've a couple of Phals in bloom and the one Cattleya that I shared already, but I need to practice. I have Phals in spike too, it would be fun to catch those growing. I'm a little sad though, I broke a nice spike watering the other day. I hope it branches and keeps growing!

That's a nice peloric. It doesn't even look like a phal.

The camera I bought was bundled with a bunch of other equipment. Some items being a remote, wireless flash, a cheap tripod (I wouldn't trust my camera on it, personally) and a wireless remote shutter trigger. I already own a much better, mini tripod that extends, 2 lights on stands and a black backdrop. I covered a box with an old black tshirt (I need to do it better) to use as a perch for potted orchids.
Mounted my camera on my old tripod adjusted to a proper height. Turned on the lights and adjusted them to give the look I was seeking. I mounted the remote flash on the cheap tripod and aimed the light from it on the phal leaves in the background. And then started shooting shots making small adjustments and then selecting these to show as the best of that shoot.

To me, once I get into photographer mode, I see what I want to shoot in my mind and then try to get the camera to see the same thing and capture it.

I snapped off a phal spike too yesterday. It had failed to be able to bloom the first set of buds it grew and was in the process of growing new buds when I snapped it off.

Did you shoot in the dark, as we'd talked about before?

Not with 2 photo lights on stands and 2 flashes. I have a black backdrop now I shoot against. You just have to ensure that little light falls on the backdrop so it goes black in the picture.
