    Default Onc varicosum

    Hi folks .
    Thought that you might enjoy seeing a couple of my Onc varicosum's
    that are in flower at this time.They are first Onc varicosum `Bolin' and second
    Onc varicosum `Lemforde' AM ,which has a lip which is 40mm across and as for
    Onc varicosum `Bolin' the color in it,soooooooo dark.
    And who says that Oncids love light .Plants were grown under 70% shade

    Very nice, bright flowers. 70% shade cloth.... hmmm there may be hope for mine yet!!!

    Nice blooms!
    I have used these types of shade cloths before. In fact, the light intensity that goes through the 70% shade cloth is still pretty intense, especially during the summer. Lot of orchids would bloom out nicely under this shade cloth, especially for those that bloom during late summer/early fall. They have the whole summer growing! Cyms however would need 55% shade cloth to bloom or to bloom well. Sun loving orchids (vandas, dendrobiums, aerides, brassavolas, laelia, mule-ear oncidiums) would do better around 65-70% shade cloth during summer, 55% or nothing during colder months. I doubt your oncidiums are as sun-loving as those ...

    It just goes to show that what we are told is not necessaryily correct as I am also growing and flowering denbrobs in the same shade house.The dendrobs in clude sepciosum and amuelum and also Den.fimbriatum Var Occulatum
