The plant is labelled as i corrected it to.The confusion with the title was because it was labelled by another nursery as Phal Leopard Prince.I bought the plant from Germany & part of the translation comes out as this:

    Doritaenopsis Leopard Prince 1138 'Sogo'
    Phalaenopsis Sexy Pink Geschützte Handelsmarke.
(Dtps Sun Prince x Phal Ho's French Fantasia)

I must say googling for piccies to confirm it,s identity just made me more confused

    Hi all,

Sorry if I seemed pedantic - certainly wasn't my intention. It's just the naming can get hopelessly confusing when stuff isn't labeled correctly.

Good recall, Diane on Hoa's post - I recollected it, but not the cross. I just knew the patterning in Steve's looked darned familiar.

Steve's Leopard Prince is Dtps. Sun Prince x Phal. Ho's French Fantasia (could the Ho in question be you, Sir Dr. Speedo???).

There is a registered clone, '1138', as well as Hoa's 'Sogo Diamond'. I'm sure they're closely related, as they look nearly identical.

Steve, the sites I found with mislabeled plants were German orchid sites as well, so probably someone(s) copied the mislabeling.

Whatever it is, it still a beauty!

Gee, it looks like you girls have been busy!!! Hehehhehe!
Thanks, Qing for remembering and quoting my humble thread!

Steve's plant looks mightily similar to the 'Sogo Diamond' clone that I posted previously. When I bought that plant, the vendor told me it's a patented plant! Since it is so beautiful, crafty taiwanese orchid breeders figured out a way to circumvent that. Apparently, the Leopard Prince grex has been around like forever so the cross probably was not patented. But when one plant in many thousands of the cross progenies produces flowers like the Sogo Diamond, then they have to protect it by patenting the plant. But that is a very weak patent since the competitors could go through the same process and pick out another plant with similar pattern and call it a different clonal name. Hence two clones looking almost identical but different names. Just the force of the market place at work. Do I like it? Probably not.

Oh, BTW, Diane, you don't have to call me Dr. when we go orchid shopping. 'Hoa' would suffice. I get away from all those formalities ages ago. Almost everyone around me has a title, (just kidding!), so no need for any of the stuffiness. Besides, when you first saw me, your first reaction was like 'I look like a baby!'.

Julie, unfortunately, I am not Dr. Ho. He is a very well-known and super taiwanese phal breeder. So you are right, Steve's plant was mislabeled! And he should thank us to help him to git it right!

    Cheers. Hoa.

But I thought we agreed you were an o'chid ho. Third rate, at least.

Lord Dr. Ho Hoa, Sir of Speedos?
