Psychopsis Mendenhall "Monarch"

First bloom for this guy. I'm really enjoying this strange little plant and it has been fascinating watching my first flower bloom.

You mentioned you had one in spike Julie--any blooms yet?

Very nice, Mehera! My versteegianum spike is 18" long. Diane oh Psychopsis queen, how long will the spike get on that species before it blooms?

I also just got a papilo. It's not in spike, but it's a much bigger plant and has two new leaves that are 5 and 8".

I like the colors and shape on yours, Mehera. There's quite a bit of variation between the species and the crosses. It's fun to see all the differences. How large is your flower tip-to-tip?

hmm... strangely I was never a fan of this (yes I know...) until this pic! COuld have something to do with the sepals (?) being the same colour as a Paph philippinense petals

so guess u have a really nice one Mehera... pity I'm on the other side of the world coz I'm sure you would have loved to have given me a keiki/division

Thanks everyone! This bloom is 6" the longest dimension, and about 5" through the wings (if you support them while you measure). I love this plant! It has thick, heavy, brittle leaves that remind me of plastic and strange little pseudobulbs about the size of marbles. Nice new growth coming on; anyone know if they can put up more than one spike? (I am well aware that probably everyone knows but me! LOL!).

And Tim--I really think you need a nice Psychopsis Mendenhall! I'll bet an import guy like you can find a way! :-)
