    Default Odontioda Aissa McLaughlin

I bought this guy back in Apr '04 while down in Florida visiting my folks. It was in bloom at the time and the color of the flowers just rocked me! Since then, it's never cared to rebloom. It had a bit of a dry spell that next summer, which pleated some leaves, and I sunburned the heck out of it last summer when the house got painted and the screens were off the windows. Note to self: screens filter direct sunlight.

It decided that I really do love it which I do and it decided to grace my apartment with it's lovely flowers once again. The inflorescence has 11 buds/flowers, and each flower is 2.75" across.

A friend stopped by the other day and I was showing off the plant. She took one look at it and asked, "What the hell did you do to that one?" This was the plant I told Kirstie I loved so much, I didn't care how ratty the leaves looked. Note that the closeup is of the flower only. I try not to brag about my orchid abuse!

My Brassidium Kennith Bivin 'Santa Barbara' AM/AOS Odm. carniferum x Brs. longissima is also in bloom, so I'm tossing in a pic of that spike. It normally blooms in Dec, so it's rushing the gun this year. I had two spikes last year one off the new growth and one off the previous year's growth so I was disappointed only one came up this time. Then two days ago I saw the second one, now over a 18" long! It didn't forget, it just was rushing so fast to bloom the 2nd spike couldn't catch up!

I love the colors on the Odontioda and that is a nice long spike on your Brassidium. I count 12 beautiful blooms so despite your alleged abuse you must be doing something right.

That really is a knockout color on the Aissa McLaughlin! Wish my Brassidium was still blooming; I miss its clove scent. Sounds like your tough love approach worked just fine. I just sunburned the heck out of one of my phals while I was out of town for a few days--maybe she will forgive me and bloom nicely anyway!

Great blooms! Love the classy pink with the white edges and dab of sunlight in the center.
All you plants (in the pic) look so good! Have you been threatening them with the salad shooter again? LOL

Tami, you have to rough 'em up every now and then an make an example out of one from time to time so they know who's boss!

Hmmmm, then I ought to have a yard full of blooms! Wonder where I went wrong? Maybe I need to bring out the bicycle and scissors!
