    Default Phal.

This was my first orchid ever, a supermarket bought phal. that I know nothing about. She is very prolific and makes me feel like an expert. Does anyone know her name? Her flowers are about 4-inches across. What other info might I need for identification?? Sorry about all the shadows.
    thanks

She is a beauty, but there are sooo many white phals nowadays, that getting the right name may be impossible. So just enjoy her! We all have a few 'plants with no name'.

    nice growing
unfortunately, about the only way to get a name for a noid, especially a white one, may be a dna test

How about 'Moonrise'? Just a made up name but it fits. She's a beauty!
Very nice pic, chids. Welcome, BTW!

I just purchased a very big white phal that was destined for the composter
at my local supermarket. She is just like yours and of course, no name
She only has one bloom but for 2.00 I will wait for her to bloom again. I also rescued a purple phal with 2 branching spikes, 5 blooms and 6 buds and one that had no bloom at all. Each was 2.00. Our market is notorious for not watering their orchids and these in an orchid pot sold for 32.95 at Christmas. They are the big waterfall phals which is what you have. I think Moonrise is a great name for them. I also was fortunate to get a Bellara
Tohoma 'Glacier Green", a very healthy looking plant that had finished blooming for another 2.00. Quite a haul for 8.00. But, you should have seen the look on Hubby's face when I got home with them! I think he is still in shock from the ones I purchased with my Christmas money. They arrived the same week.

I have quite a few orchids with no names, includining one I just call Milt cause that's all I know about it. I'll picture that one another time. Take care all.

There's nothing wrong with calling an orchid, "George" if you feel like it. But the names of plants are very important if you post photos, show your plants, trade or sell them. Knicknames are great, but for more formal puposes, always work with a known name, or else call it a NOID (no identification).

Plants sold that are improperly or mistakenly named wreak havoc among collectors. If you're not absolutely sure, you can speculate what it might be, but you can't assign a name arbitrarily.

I know that's no fun, but mislabeled plants are a huge problem. It's not worth making it worse on guesses.

Still, yours is lovely; you'll never figure out its parentage, so just love its beauty!
