There is nothing I would love more in my life than to have trees in my backyard with orchids and the climate to support them!! Cindy and Kerry, I feel your pain- I was walking to the subway this morning in 30 degree F weather while it was snowing on my head :-(

This phal is gorgeous; enjoy it in good health and happy sun!!

I'm intrigued and would like to try this with some NOIDs. Can you give any suggestions and advice?

I have a choice of Oak, Avocado, Mango, Pecan, and Eucalyptus. A relatively large Scrub Oak and the Avocado have some rotted knots that hold a little water.

    Thanks

Sadly this phal succumbed to the cold winter we had 2 years ago but it's sister is doing fine. I posted a pic of it a couple of months ago.
@ Suncoast, the chids would really love your live oak, just tie them firmly on the tree with a little wet spag between them and the bark.

Thanks for the reply Molly Taco. That was a bad freeze.

Since posting this, my parents who are very into Orchids berated my interest in mounting directly to a tree and cited the very same freeze as the reason not to do it.... Sigh.

I'm still going to try it.

I live in Largo as well and have two phals and two dendrobiums tied to trees here. The dendrobiums are on palm trees out front and the phals are on palm trees. I'm hoping they'll all do well. I've heard that plants growing on trees here make it most of the time. One of the dendrobiums has four new growths and i've never seen one do that before. I don't even water it anymore. lol
