    Default Cischweinfia dasyandra

Cischweinfia dasyandra is a miniature species from Central America. I think it is in the subtribe Oncidiinae. It's a warm grower, and this is it's first bloom for me, and an unexpected one too. I'm growing it in sphag because it likes to be moist and has fine roots.

How unusual. Very nice. At first I did not notice the green petals of the bloom. Very cool flower, Fren.

I brought this one to my society meeting today. Too bad I couldn't bring my Psychopsis Mariposa which is blooming on two spikes. I had to use public transportation, and go to work right away, and it was raining, so I brought this mini for ease. Somehow the public transportation, work and rain didn't stop me from buying more plants...

Anyway someone else brought the same species and won a ribbon with it. It was bloomed much better with multiple spikes. Are these guys sequential bloomers? My plant was commented on as 'just starting', am I expecting more blooms?

Not IME, Fren. But each pb can put out more than one spike. More mature plants often have 3 or more flowers per spike.

Definitely a mini, Di. Mine hasn't bloomed in a while, but as I recall, flowers are about 1 cm across. Plant ht for a single pb+leaves is about 4" [10cm]. Tends to be a bit of a climber/stairstepper, with each new pb being a bit higher than the base of the older pb before it.
