Thanks guys. Smartie-- I agree with you that the spike has really gotten too long for my taste as well, but I just can bring myself to get the cutting shears!

Pavel correctly described it -- 4-6 blooms open at a time.

I understand your sentiments Sadie. My Dtps Lava Glow is doing the same thing. I have two spikes that are now arched over and and reach down to the base of the plant. I keep thinking...."well, she could probably use a rest"...but at the same time I just LOVE the blooms! Eventually I'll break! I would hate to do anything to damage the plant itself...of course it has also made 2 new leaves...and I do give it lots of food!

Wow...... that's just crazy, but really neat! Maybe cut the spike and put it in a vase? My mom did that with her dendrobium spike that got broke off and the blooms are still fine a month later. Don't know if it would work on a phal, though.

Sadie, it's a great little grower!

If you want to keep it blooming a bit longer, but think the spike is getting unsightly, how about put the plant as high as you can so that the spike droops down and you get a mini waterfall of blooms. I have a mini mark that (although nowhere near as long as yours) looks a lot better with the spike hanging down from above with the flowers sort of popping into my line of view whenever I look towards the window.
