What material are you using for the background? I can see the glare from the flash. Velvet shows very little if no glare at all.

I'm using that black tarp material you stake into flowerbeds to keep the weeds from coming up...

That is what I had figured. Try velvet.

    Tip:

If you want to use flash (I don't recommend using flash at all) if very little natural light is available, then place the dark background further back about 2 -3 ft, so you don't capture any distracting shadows in the background.

I think I'd rather wait for the sun. The front "flash" look seems to give the plants an unnatural tint I don't like. The camera I have won't let me hook up a remote flash unit for fill-in, (which is the only time I think using flash actually works decently) so I'm not going to use it.

    Thanks for the tip.

Yep, I agree, if you want to use flash, direct or point the flash to the ceiling where the light can bounce and reflect on the plant.

For me, natural light is always the best.

Hmmm. Cloudy again today, so no attempts at razzle-dazzle pics.

It's just as well, I guess; we've got a Paph. Susan Booth that's starting to open that I'm itching to show off having to wait a day or two will let the flower fully open and it'll look better...

    Sigh....
