    Talking Cischweinfia dasyandra (c. rostrata)

I just took this photo and wanted to share it with all of you. The first photo is of the plant. I will reply to the post with the close up of the flowers. I caught the sunlight at just the right time of the day. After taking about 30 photos, three turned out. Anyway, here is the first. Enjoy!

    Cheers!

Cool - can you share more info on that? I was going to ask about the fragrance too. Where is it from originally? Cool/Warm grower? Just curious, not at all familiar with those. Very pretty and well grown!

Thanks! No, I could not smell anything this afternoon. It might be fragrant in the early morning.

    Cheers!

They're found in places like Panama, Costa Rica, and Ecuador, and we're growing it warm with all the Oncidiums. It seems to like it pretty wet so there's a lot of coconut in the mix. Cool little species, tho....

    Heather,

I did not know much of the history about these little plants either, so I googled them. Here is a cut and past from American Orchid Society - About Us

"Plants remain compact, under 8" tall but grow rapidly to form lovely specimen plants in no time. Flowers emerge in the spring and summer.

Cultivated species are; colombiana, dasyandra, parva, platychila, pusilla, rostrata, suarezii

    Number of species: Seven

    Distribution:
Lower elevations (400 - 1300 meters) on cloud forested slopes of Costa Rica, Panama, western Ecuador, southwestern Columbia and Bolivia. " (Marianna Max)

If you go to the website, there is a pronunciation link where you can here the name. Very cool.

    Cheers!
