    Default Hello!

Not only am I new to the boards here, but this is also my first post. I recently decided to buy a new digital camera to pique my interest in photography a bit. My current shooting mode of choice is in macro mode - making the smaller things come to life by blowing them up beyond preportion.

At first, I was fascinated with macro-insect photography, but it became a pain in the rear to try to track down bugs worth photographing. As my roommate is a plant fanatic of sorts, I found taking photos of flowers to be fun. Just when I was understanding the true beauty of flowers, I sit down and watch the movie 'Adaptation'. I didn't really understand why people would go to great lengths to grow these specific plants. Looking at them on the internet drew my curiosity a bit further, but still doubts lingered. On the way back to my place this morning, I decided to swing by a nursery and just have a look at them.... I bought three.

I would have waited until I got home to buy them from the site here, but... I guess I'm just beginning to understand the fascination with orchids. I already named my paph "Anabelle" because it is a good name for such a beautiful flower. So, without further ado, here is Anabelle, my first blooming orchid:

This isn't the greatest picture as I'm trying to find a better backdrop to bring out the full color of her flower..... but it gives you the general idea!

Anabelle is a beautiful Phalaenopsis! If this photo is an indication of the kind of photos you take, BRAVO. I am always amazed when I see close- ups of an orchid bloom. I have a macro adjustment on my camera (Olympus Camedia E-10), but just have not got the hang of the true close up. I do well with a little background.

Anyhoo, welcome to the board! I am glad you are here and look forward to seeing more of your orchid photos soon! I said in an earlier post that I was going to go and take a photo of my new mini cattleya while it is in bloom. I guess now, I will have to really try to make it a nice photo.

Cheers to our newest member, xgrendel!

Thanks! I seem to get my orchid species a bit mixed up. I'll have more photos soon as I'm waiting for her third flower to bloom....

I completely understand how difficult it can be to do macro photography. I'm really new to photography, so it's taking a bit of work to get used to. Alot of trial and error!

...me too, lots more error than anything else..LOL I really love using my camera. I wish I would make more time to use it. I get to see so many beautiful blooms here at the greenhouse; I often can't decide what to photograph, and I end up not taking anything worth sharing. It is when I get a really lucky shot that it makes all of the mistakes worth it.

    Cheers!
