Wow! Those are awesome. I've never grown a Gongora before--will have to see about getting one now. Thanks for posting that!

    hey louis,
they are very rewarding. the individual blooms only last a week or two, but the plant throws spike after spike. we have a friend here in tn that has had theirs in bloom for over 13 months. they are related to the stanhopea tribe. they seem to enjoy slat baskets with coarse medium.
    good growing,

They looked stanhopea-ish I was wondering if they may have been related. Do they need any special temps? Cool growing things don't do well for us here.....

our orchid room stays pretty warm in the winter but we do have a good temp swing day to night. i havent noticed the gongora to need cooler conditions, it lives outside in the summer with the rest of our 'chids.

Sounds like it would do well for us. Any chance you might have a piece you'd be interested in selling? A couple of backbulbs we might get some new growth out of?

    sorry louis,
this is a recent 6 bulb division from a huge specimen sized mother at the small commercial orchid house dawn and i part-time at for fun once a week. it's just getting used to it's new home. there are alot out there just plug gongora maculata into google. y'all would probably flip over this place (the gh's), most of the huge mother type plants are at least 40 years old. the lady who owns it is german she actualy collected some of her plants in india back in the early 60's. neat place...

No prob.... I'll definitely check into it though. The greenhouse sounds awesome: you're lucky to have found such a place to get experience in. I got started 15 years ago under similar circumstances....

They are beautiful! I am blown away. It really does look like tiny dragons. Nice.

thanx brutal, someday i'd like to be able to use little dragon as a grex name.
louis, it's been alot of fun and sweat working for "der frau", dawn and i have also been into orchids about 15 years. we lease blooming orchids to some of our aquarium clients on a monthly basis, on the ocasion that we dont have a bloomer in our collection when a current display begins to fade it's nice to have someone else pay for a new plant for the collection. hehe
    good growing,
    skip & dawn
