Prem's Phalaenopsis lueddemanniana
This was a raffle acquisition from our most recent orchid society meeting. The plant was donated by Glen Sponholtz of Glenmar Orchids in Tallahassee. The flowers are nearly 2" across with a moderate pleasant fragrance not unlike Phal. bellina.

is there something wrong with my post?
is everything properly visible on my initial post? I was wondering if the lack of response had to do with some logistical issue such as an inaccessible image or other such problem.

Wow, Prem! Beautiful phal. It looks as if it is comming out of the screen. That is GREAT! How in the world did you get it to come out so clear and be that close?! NICE WORK!
Cheers!

Can we do that? If so count my vote too!
It really is a beautiful bloom!

Dreamer,
the trick to getting good depth of field is to use the highest aperture setting possible. The Sony Mavica that I use maxes out at f8.0. I know other cameras, such as the Canon Digital Rebel, will go even higher. Having a high aperture, however, means that shutter speeds will need to be slower and/or the light will need to be brighter. Throwing as much light as possible on your subject and using a tripod helps significantly in this area.
Jason,
this plant tends to make keikis...perhaps in a keiki generation or two, I'll have some to distribute. The next keiki or two I plan on leaving with the plant, in order to have some insurance against rots attacking any one growth.

Prem, thanks for the photography tips. I'm still not quite sure how to adjust the aperture setting on my camera; even when I set the dial to "A" for aperture priority, pressing the forward and back buttons don't seem to change the values. (And, I lost the instructions again... ) You wouldn't happen to know how that works on an Olympus Camedia 2500L, would you? I'm still stuck in fully programmed mode, and wish I could start playing with aperture and shutter speed....

Prem,
I have never tried adjusting the aperture on my camera. Thanks to Pete I have just learned how to get the right kind of light for photographing my blooms. I will have to give it a go. I appreciate you explaining how you took such a great shot.
Cheers!
