    Default My paph

I purchased this paph last weekend, but it came with the wrong tag. (Tag said Avalon Mist, but this doesn't look like any of the Avalon Mists that I've seen.) I need to go back to the nursery to have it ID-ed properly, unless there is someone here (and I'm sure there are several of you!) who can tell me what it is. I'm not an expert photographer so my apologies in advance for the bad lighting. Thanks for looking!

Cute! These little guys are growing on me too...but slowly- I'm still at the hairy catapillar stage I'm afraid. Anyway, love the green dorsal. I could venture a guess on parentage but won't, since I'll likely be wrong! lol. Nice choice!

Nice paph! Looking at the parentage of Avalon Mist (primulinum x Pinocchio), with the latter being primulinum x glaucophyllum, I think it is definitely consistent with your plant. It is certainly a straight cochlopetalum, the section of the paph world with caterpillar petals and successive-blooming characteristics. Your plant gets that bubble-gum pink pouch from the glaucophyllum, while the dose of primulinum gives you that clear dorsal (glauco tends to have some striping, while its variety moquettianum has pronounced spotting).

Of note is that primulinum has two forms--one that is green & white (primulinum fma. primulinum aka fma. alba), and one that has tones of yellow, brown, and tan (fma. purpurescens). Here's a link to mine:

Your plant has very good shape, with a broad dorsal and balanced petals. It's a keeper!

Nancy, I think Jason is correct. I think you may have the right tag.

    Nice bloom by the way!

Thanks for all your kind praise! Seeing how Jason and Pete are such experts at paphs, how can I not trust their assessment? The next time I'm at the nursery, I'll ask the owner to confirm that it is indeed an Avalon Mist. Thanks again!

Jason, Pete, you guys are good. You definitely know your Paphs!

Nancy, that's a really nice plant and picture of the bloom. Great choice!
