Wow, I've never seen a vini quite like that. The dorsal is very uniquely-shaped, and I'm a fan of that mirror-image synsepal. The petals and pouch, though, are dead on for fairrieanum. Congrats!
It's still so odd to me how the same cross can wind up with such different looking blooms. We've even had a few of these where the same spike carried two flowers you would have thought must have come from vastly different plants.
Ok - well your sarcasm about it is funny.
Don't forget, not all of us know all of these taxonomist stories, but I do agree completely with you on the self-promoting lack of creativity.
Off to do more research...
When I rule the world (and conquer the RHS), I will strike down all self-promotion in the realm of primary hybrids (promotion is fine with me if it's an advanced breeding line you've been working on for years), and Paph. kovochii will be renamed peruvianum, and Braem & Cribb will be in the boxing ring on HBO pay per view.
