Heather, did you know that squids are very intelligent animals?

Hmm, tasty *and* intelligent! There is a LOT of talk in my Sander book about people ("travelers" aka orchid hunters) "going native" and marrying native women, and doing all sorts of crazy things just to keep from being eaten by the locals! That's a little freaky, isn't it? I'm not sure I would go to those lengths to collect orchids.

It is very interesting how Low, Lindley, and Sander, in particular(all competitive contemporaries,) were very insistant upon their "travelers" staying to get the job done no matter what the cost! Sander didn't work on credit either, so his guys had NO money to move when necessary, whereas the others gave credit to their people which was maybe, more humane. Yikes! Thank god for the internet!
