Nice, crisp photo, Pete. Amazing to me about the size of those blooms. It's too bad there's no way to get an impression of that from the picture. Maybe you could photograph with some kind of prop in the pic whose size is known so there's something to compare the blooms to.
Lja, I had to take this picture in a hurry 'cause it was getting dark outside. I held a ruler right next to the bloom and it was a difficult feat holding the camera in one hand and the ruler in the other. The dorsal sepal was pointing forward at an angle, so the bloom appears smaller. If I held that sepal upright, it would measure exactly 8 inches tall.

    LOL!!!!!! Pete!

I didn't mean "put a ruler up to it cuz I don't believe you!!!"

    ROFL!!!!

I meant, in the glam shot, it was just too bad there was nothing in there with the blooms to compare them to that would give the viewer a sense of their size.

LOL!!! But dang, I'm impressed again!

Don't feel bad. Many years of growing paphs had gone by before I finally realized why some people snickered at venustum. Look for a picture of the flower, think pouch, think veins, think dirty...
(Those are all the clues you're getting from me).

    Shame on these people!

And, as an *aside*, not to go back on topic or anything, but nice psychopsis, Pete.

omg I'm never going to see a venustum the same way again. I always thought that pouch looked like a brain, but ya know....

Besides, dang, my venustum's pouch is a really dark yellowish green. That would mean having gotten racked and some kinda SERIOUSLY bruised....

    Ok, I won't feel bad....lol

Actually I have a venustrum album. And I used to be a nurse. So I sorta copped onto that similarity first thing....

Just wanted to see if anyone had the... ahem... venustrums to explain it....
