St. Pete
Just in case there is someone who isn't tired of seeing pics of my Phrag. St. Peter, one last pic...(until I repot! Then you get to see the roots! haha! ) Last bloom for this one...pouch looks different to me on it. Actually, I went back and looked and each pouch has had a different variation of those "fangs" on the pouch (for lack of a better description!) but this one is the most pronounced and fang-like! This one is also smaller and more red, I think.
It is very dark here today so not a very glamourous shot...

Heather, thanks for posting. Yes, the last blooms on the spikes are usually smaller and to my eyes even the colors look different, sometimes darker and sometimes lighter.
I can see the "fangs" on that pouch, very cute would have been perfect around Halloween!

I've noticed on a lot of sequential bloomers (or even simultaneous bloomers) that the last flowers, which tend to be smaller, also tend to be darker. Apparently the amount of pigment generated is not diminished, or at least less so than the amount of flower tissue.

Is this the plant's first bloom? Ususally those fang-like things come up on a phrag's first spike but then disappear on subsequent bloomings. Still very pretty though!

That is a wild color, is that a coral color? That would look perfect in my bathroom...

Yes, a dark desert sunset sort of coral. I love this one so much...partly due to that lucious longifolium foliage. Yum!
(is it weird to be in love w/ a plant? Nah...)
