Ok, I get it now. You have three other fragrant orchid plants (species) that still haven't bloomed yet.

Gee, looks like a pretty good pic to me. In the greenhouse, I must have stood and inhales the sharry baby for 5 minutes straight. It is intoxicating to say the least.

I'm pretty excited about it - sniffed it yesterday actually and it is far from open. I've developed a habit for smelling everything, but only the Berenice smells faintly - of roses.

Yay! Yes, say what you will about the "commoness" of Sharry Baby: they're still beautiful orchids and the fragrance can't be beat!

    Thanks for posting that, P.

To me, the blooms smell like cakes and cookies baking in the oven, YUMMY!!!
The fragrance does vary. I've encountered some that actually smell lemony. I've also noticed that some tend to be more of a brownish red than a true red like yours is. Very well grown plant from the looks of it.

I saw one in Home Despot a few weeks ago and it was the most pitiful little thing; to set eyes on it was to feel sorry for it. It only had one scrawny little spike that was about 6 or 8 inches tall. I had a momentary impulse to buy it and send to Louis so that he could post a pic of it alongside of one of his ginormous ones on the home page.

    Peter,
That is a beautiful SB! You must love the fragrance to let it take up your paph and phrag growing space....... I had 3 SBs because I loved the fragrance so much....but due to lack of space now only have one.

Thanks Gilda! Yes, they get so HUGE so quickly and taking up precious Paph/Phrag space but the fragrance is the only reason that I still have it and keeping it! I just divided the monster plant and got rid of the two divisions and the mother plant is still very BIG!

Yes, I have seen many SBs in spike at HD and they are very small in size and quite obviously forced to bloom by the growers for commerical reasons (of course!). Mine and Lja's SBs are giants compared to those puny little ones at HD!

I have one monster left that I decided I'm not going to divide, just to have something in a few years that'll throw up a zillion spikes for some "shock" value!
