Traci - yes easy to bloom, I keep it in ProMix and sitting in a pan of water, it loves to be soaking wet.

Different clones vary in ease of culture, but I am pretty sure that the key to success with besseae is keeping the roots cool. Before I switched to s/h (which keeps the roots quite cool), I kept besseae in NZ sphag in clay pots. It was annoying in that I had to repot every 6 months, but the evaporative cooling really kept the roots cool, even in summer.
I talked to John @ Parkside earlier this year and he said he had some problems with besseae in the past, but found that putting them into clay/sphag seemed to get them through the summer in better shape.
