Default Brassia gireoudiana in bloom PHOTO

My favorite Brassia species in bloom again with 5 spikes. This is the largest of all Brassias, over all plant and flower size. Flowers can measure 12 to 20 inches long and are extremely fragrant! The whole grow room smells sweet and fruity, very pleasant and I love the scent.

The plant is huge and the spikes were actually tipping the whole plant over, so I had to put the plant in a larger empty container with a single large rock in it to weigh it down. Now it ain't going anywhere. The plant measures almost 4 feet in leafspan and in the corner of the grow room, so it is hard for me to reach and move to take glamorshot photos. Hopefully, the weather warms up later this week, so I can move it oudoors and take better pictures. The first photo appears more yellowish because the HPS light was directly above the plant.

    Thumbs up

That's a gorgeous plant. Great growing, and nice pics of it too! How long have you been growing it?

    Thanks!

It was bought as a small 2 growth seedling in the summer of 2001. It actually bloomed for the first time last year with 4 spikes.

And the pics are great too. Shows what kind of results you can get by growing under lights. I'd be willing to bet that that light meter was put to good use determing the optimum levels for the plants. I'm very impressed with the reflective surfaces on the walls, as well. Really excellent work.

    Default Brassia

    Thanks, lja!

I love my HPS light systems and have no problem growing and blooming my plants which are mainly multilfloral Paph and Phrag species with a few hybrids and few other genera like Brassia, Angraecum, Dendrobium, Psychopsis, Encyclia, Masdevallia, Oncidium and a couple more that I can't remember. My favorites are the Paphs and Phrags.

Hey Peter, can you sometime post a pic of your whole growing area? Is that possible? Would love to see your setup.
