Lightbulb Let's make a contest out of it!

We need two quotations for August. They don't necessarily have to be orchid-related, but they should inspire a positive attitude toward RVO. They can be wry or witty, profound or light-hearted, but they must be 100 characters or less in length.

The OrchdTalk member whose two quotations we use for August will win one of our fantabulous RVO tile coasters--perfect for keeping that frosty mug from marring the tabletop! (Yes, I said that before, but it's true: they really do work. )

Any member from any part of the world can enter, just submit your two quotes by replying to this thread, limit four quotes per member. And by the way, if we think they're all sucky, we won't use any of them, so make them good ones!

Okay - since it was my suggestion, here are 4:

If you can't be a good example, then you'll just have to serve as a horrible warning - unknown

If I were two-faced, would I be wearing this one? - Abraham Lincoln

(All my life) I have tried to pluck a weed and plant a flower wherever the flower would grow in thought and mind - Abraham Lincoln

Wow-- look at the rush of entries! Blow me away!

    Whatsa matter? Nobody likes coasters?

Ok, I know, they're not, like, made out of some rare material; they're not rare species coasters, granted; but geez, at this rate, I might as well just send the thing to Diane now!

Should I up the winnings? A brand new crisp $50.00 bill maybe?

    Ok, NOT.

Surely you guys can come up with some good quotations--seriously: there are some great ones out there.

Diane, those four are actually pretty good--not bad at all.

Gin lol! You posted while I was posting! Dem fast fingers.....

Hope there's not a limit on entries. Here goes...

"If I'd have known old was going to last this long, I'd have taken better care of myself." -An elderly patient I treated (Anonymous)

"The wheel is turning, but the hamster is dead." -a boss on an employee's work review (Anonymous)

"To travel hopefully is a better thing than to arrive." -Robert Louis Stevenson

"Humility is the most difficult of all virtues to achieve; nothing dies harder than the desire to think well of oneself." -Thomas Stearns Eliot

"We know too much, and are convinced of too little. Our literature is a substitute for religion, and so is our religion!" -Thomas Stearns Eliot

"Forget your personal tragedy. We are all bitched from the start and you especially have to be hurt like hell before you can write seriously. But when you get the damned hurt use it - don't cheat with it. Be as faithful to it as a scientist - but don't think anything is of any importance because it happens to you or anyone belonging to you." -Ernest Hemingway to F. Scott Fitzgerald, 1934

"You can't stop the waves, but you can learn to surf." -Joseph Goldstein

"The birds have vanished into the sky, and now the last cloud drains away. We sit together, the mountain and me, until only the mountain remains." -Li Po

"It is in the nature of all things that take form to dissolve again." -Gautama Buddha

"Do you have the patience to wait
till your mud settles and the water is clear?
    Can you remain unmoving
till the right action arises by itself?" -Lao-tzu, Tao Te Ching

So now oh how are you going to pick two without offending anyone??? (Don't blame me - - nobody usually listens to my suggestions, so how was I to know you would??? ) Actually, there are a lot of good ones, perhaps you'll have to go with quotation of the day....LOL

A good quote, but probably not for RVO:
Never attribute to malice what can be adequately explained by stupidity.

    Other more appropriate quotes:

Good judgement comes from experience, and experience comes from bad judgement.

    Fred Brooks
    University of North Carolina

If we can't fix it, it ain't broke.

    Lieutenant Colonel Walt Weir
    United States Army

Both are blatently stolen from here, but work equally well for orchids.

    Oooh: here's a third;

    Give up!

    Franz Kafka

That was my new year's resolution for three years running. I'm not sure if I have yet.

By the way; I'm sorry I've been missing. Been very busy.
