    I am done shopping too!

I found lots of orange orchids. Some fragrant ones and showy encyclias. I also found some Masdevalias (orange) for my primitive terrarium. Finally, a couple of desirable paphs and few unusual orchids. Kind of eclectic mix. All of my choices are intermediate or warm temp requirements. Theoretically all of them would be happy in my house.

    Here is my list:

    1. Laelia milleri, BS, $20, orange
    2. Laelia crispa, NBS, $25, very fragrant, large flowers of white and purple
    3. Laelia sincorana, BS, $15, Compact, leaves like R. digbayana, showy deep purple flowers.
    4. Encyclia adenocaula (nemorale), BS, $38, intense pink/purple flowers on on
2 to 3 ft. branching spikes.
    5. Encyclia randii, NBS, $20, fragrant and interesting flower.
    6. Epidendrum parkinsonianum, BS, $28, fragrant, pendant growing habit.
    7. Sedirea (Aerides) japonica, NBS, $16, Very fragrant, pretty creamy white flowers with rose markings.
    8. Dracula sodiroi, BS, $26, orange flowers look like little lanterns
    9. Masdevallia Veitch's Candy Cane 'Sandra's Sunset' HCC/AOS, BS, $24, Orange with stripes.
    10. Masdevallia Little Leopard 'Perky in Purple', BS, $25, Very perky looking!
    11. Masdevallia hirtzii 2.25 inch pots $22 orange bells.
    12. Phrag. kovachii ‘Laura’ x Phrag. Living Fire 4N, 2 1/2''pot seedling, $75, looks like a poppy with big ears, nice colors.
    13. Paph. Lynleigh Koopowitz (delenatii x malipoense), 4'' pot, $40, I have seen one on the NYC orchid show and fell in love with it. White with thouch of green and pink center.
    14. Phalaenopsis Apricot Glow (equestris x fasciata), BS, $20, exotic looking, pink with darker markings, narrow leaves.
    15. Ansellia africana var. nilotica, 2 1/2'', $10, Orange with brown marking
    16. Phal. Carolina Bronze Meteor 'Lenette', HCC/AOS, BS, $15, orange with bronze.
    17. Sc. Crystelle Smith 'Aileen' AM/AOS, BS, $15, beautiful mini deep pink with yellow lip.
    18. Pot. Memoria Shirley Moore 'Mendenhall', BS, $15, Very orange and mini.

    Total $501.50 with shipping

LOL, that means you have to buy more orchids Ania, or you'll lose your status!

Nice orange spree! It was really fun to shop by color! Great idea, Bruce! Someone should go after pure reds.

By the way Bruce, I'd love to see your blue shopping list, even if there's overlap. Can't get enough blues! Or oranges. Or reds. Or...

Well, this was in some ways harder than I thought -- the $ disappeared faster than I expected. I decided to approach this from the position of someone who had NO orchids at all -- someone perhaps who is starting over but is quite knowledgeable and all around good with plants.

My total came out to $499 with shipping. Note: whether this would be considered "cheating" or not I don't know. I avoided most of the possible shipping charges the way I usually do -- I place orders with venders who will be attending orchid shows that I also will attend. [Why waste perfectly good money on postage when one can avoid it?]

    Here's my list:
    1. Angraecum sesquipedale bs 35 + 10 shipping
    2. Gastrochilus japonicus bs 16.50
    3. Bulbophyllum echinolabium Bs 20
    4. Gongora chocoensis Bs 26
    5. Coryanthes bicalcarata Bs 16.50
    6. Scaphosepalum swertifolium bs 17.50 + 10 ship
    7. Ascocenda Surat Spot bs 25
    ‘Sweet Fragrance’
    8. Den spectabile bs 20
    9. Haraella odorata Bs 12
    10. Ludisa discolor Bs 12.50
    11. Paph delenatii Bs 20
    12. Paphiopedilum armeniancum Bs 35
    13. Polyrhiza Sd 12.5
    14. Ornithochilus fuscus Bs 15
    15. Ornithocephalus inflexus Bs 16.5
    16. Slc Tutankamen ‘pop’ Bs 25
    17. Masdevallia Rose-Mary bs 22
    18. Psychopsis Kalihi Bs 25
    19. Schoenorchis fragrans Bs 16
    20. CYMBIDIUM Delrosa BS 25
    21. Laeliocattleya Green Veil Bs 25
    22. Odontocidium Tiger Crow ' Golden Girl' NBs 25
    23. PHALAENOPSIS Mini Mark 'Holm' bs 15

I aimed for variety both of color & flower form/plant style [hence the rather disproportionate # of species]. Being rather impatient myself, I went for BS plants whenever possible.

    Cool

    Tim,

I think that I ended up "buying" more because I still don't have enough plants to have a few of them in bloom all the time. You, on the other hand, are looking for something out of ordinary and hard to get. You also have more knowledge on what it would be....Thank you for being so appreciative.

I think everybody's lists have been great! Ania, your oranges were spectacular!

Pavel went on an ADD genus spree that's got my head spinning! But great picks and representative genera!

Fun to play - thanks, Diane!
