The Cattleya Orchid Article Contest
Pot. Free Spirit 'Lea' AM/AOS
Well, it has been a long while since our last contest so here is a quick one to get folks excited!
How do I enter?
Log into OrchidTalk and click on the Orchid Articles section of our forum. Create an article with the topic of cattleyas. IT CAN BE ON ANY ASPECT OF CATTLEYAS. (semi-hydro, mini-cats, pollination of cattleya blooms, cattleya photography, mounting a cattleya, creating a corsage from a cattleya bloom, the parts of a cattleya orchid, anything!) Be creative. Teach us what you know.
The article you submit should be at least 100 words in length. (This post is getting close to 100 words already!) The article should focus on one aspect and be as detailed and informative as possible. Images within your article are encouraged! (This article should be your own original work. Please do not submit someone else's work.)
Who can enter & more importantly- what can I win?
Everyone who is a member of our forum is able to enter. For the members who are not within the continental USA, your prize, should you be selected the winner, will be an RVO OrchidTalk T-Shrit or an RVO OrchidTalk Mug (your choice!) For those members who do live in the connected United States, should you win, you will win a N.B.S. Pot. Free Spirit 'Lea' AM/AOS orchid plant. This plant was donated by our OrchidTalk Member, desertgal (Katie) to help grow the forum. She ordered this beauty back during the cold of winter and with her recent health issues, she decided to donate it to be used as a contest prize to grow her orchid forum. THANKS KATIE!
When does the contest start?
Sunday, May 6, 2007 at 12:01 a.m.
When does the contest end?
Sunday, May 20, 2007 at 12:01 a.m.
Can I enter more than once?
Yes! The purpose of the contest is to grow our article library. Multiple entries are encouraged. Only one winner will be selected, so make your article the best of the pack! Everyone is a winner when we have good content in our library.
How will the contest be judged?
After the close of the contest, the OrchidTalk members will select the winner via a public poll. Members will be allowed to vote one time, and of course s/he can vote for her/himself. The best article on cattleyas, according to our members, will win the prize!
The prize will be mailed from RVO to the winner - or the winner's designee - as soon as the winner has been selected.
Questions, ask them here! Otherwise - Start Posting your cattleya articles!
Cheers,
BD

We could learn a lot from crayons: some are sharp, some are pretty, some are dull, some have weird names, and all are different colors....but they all exist very nicely in the same box. ...Hmmm? .

Thank you, Bruce, and thank you, Katie!
It's funny, as I was reading the contest rules, I was thinking what a pretty mini-Catt - Katie would like that!
How are you doing, Katie? We miss your being around.

Combinations of genera within a rank... like Brassavola x Cattleya = Brassocattleya... or Encyclia x Epidendrum x Schomburgkia x Cattleya = Idon'tknowthenameoftheoutcome
-Pat
EDIT: I would assume intergeneric hybrids are allowed, since Bruce posted a picture of a Potinara...

Here is another question: What if the article utilizes a plant from the cattleya alliance, but would fit better in another catagory? I just want to get it in the right place is all.
