Richard,
I have my plants growing underlights. Maybe this helps a little bit on how to set up yours: http://www.rv-orchidworks.com/orchid...id-rookie.html

I put plastic film on the back of the shelves not to spill water on the walls. My problem is that I have to remove the plants for watering. So it could take all your Saturday morning doing so....
Good luck!

Great setup Augusto. There you go Richard, it can be done. I have to hand water all my orchids in the sink and it takes me 3 days each and every week during the winter. Of course that includes general hygeine of the pots and growing area, fertilizing, checking for insects, etc. Good thing I'm retired!

3 Days a week plus additional TLC. Something to look forward to I guess, I'm working 12hrs a day 6 days a week and I'm watering each weekend. But then again I only have about 2 dozen babies.

Richard, I didn't realize that you were in an apartment. I was thinking that if you backed onto the home's garage or if the attic was above some venting could be done but apartment living is a different story. You could vent into the bathroom and I am sure a bath, without a window, has an exhaust fan.

Have you considered building a Wardian case of buying an Orchidarium?

In order to seal the room I would use an alkyd (oil-based) paint or a 2 part epoxy. I develop paints for a living and we put fungicides in most paints. Exterior paints do have a little extra. Make sure you thoroughly prep the surface to kill any mold that may be growing on there already.
