As the developer of the technique, the first plant I experimented with was a paph, and they did so well, it encouraged me to try others. As has been said, phrags are another good bet, but I don't understand the caveat about "no long-petaled ones", as they have done well for me, too.
Murray nailed it: it is not the type of plant that matters - any plant can be grown in S/H culture - what's important is whether your growing conditions mesh with the technique well enough to provide the conditions the plant needs.
Also some Paphs are not a bad suggestion as they often require lower or the same light as Phals.
